Before my husband and I set off for Japan, a quick post with an image from my hometown Amsterdam.
A nice street in Amsterdam that is, so far at least, been mostly overlooked by most tourists is Haarlemmerstraat. The street runs from Centraal Station, very near by, to Haarlemmerpoort, one of the old city gates of Amsterdam.
The street hasn’t been spoiled by more of the same chain stores, but instead has quite a few original shops.
In this street I recently discovered a nice Portuguese delicatessen and a small bakery that specialises in mini pies and cakes, perfect for serving your guests or to treat yourself.
In the photograph you look along the Prinsengracht and you can see the bell tower of the Westerkerk (West Church) in the distance. Westerker is close to Anne Frank House and the Gay Monument.
