The journey through Bhutan I made with my partner was certainly unforgettable in many ways. Not just the stunning beauty of the landscape but also because of the peace and serenity most places exude,

A visit to Taktsang Monastery was certainly one of the highlights of the trip!

The monastery is built against a cliff in the mountains of Paro Valley, 3120 m above sea level. There are only three paths to the monastery. The one we took started easy enough, through pine forrest and easy going trail. However, the higher we got the more difficult the path became.

The last bit however I found most scary as you basically have a stairway attached to the wall of the mountain with only centimetres to spare between yourself and a long way down. I was adamant that I would not let my fear of heights get between me and this once in a life time experience.

This image was shot from the point where you get on eye level with the monastery for the first time. We took some time to savour the moment. Especially since it had been raining and overcast the whole day, but the moment we reached this point, it stopped raining and a hole in the clouds appeared letting the sunlight light the gold roof of the building!
